AEON: 30 years of Innovation

June 5, 2017

AEON: 30 years of Innovation was held on Wednesday 31st of May at Brixton East 1871. The event celebrated 30 years of 6 colleges coming together and becoming one: University of the Arts London. Alumni and current students celebrated together with talks, music, dance and art exhibition.

It was really important to us to set up this event in collaboration with mental health charity Mind and raise awareness on the subject. After the experience we went through at the beginning of the year, we wanted to pay tribute the her and make an event she'd also be proud of.

We had the chance to welcome alumni and current students such as:

Stasys Skucas studied a BA (Hons) Games Design at London College of Communication created a Charity Arcade "made by gamers, for gamers". Their goal is to make people have fun by playing while collecting funds for charity. This was a perfect fit for our project as our goal was also to raise money for charity.

Wright and Teague. After having studied in Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, Gary Wright and Sheila Teague felt in love with each other and decided to open a jewellery shop together. They found out they shared many things, the same birthday, and a fascination for jewellery’s deep-rooted spiritual connections to ritual and heritage. Their aim for their art is to forge new links.

Valentine del Giudice studied a BA (Hons) Design Management and Cultures at London College of Communication created an app called Ssshake which is the first mobile app dedicated to creative collaborations. Their goal is to offer a unique platform that allows creatives from different backgrounds and industries to connect easily and locally.

William Mills studied Advertising at London College of Communication came to our event to talk about mental health issue and how it has affected him. He previously did a TedTalk X and discussed the ways in which user based design might change universities for the better. Drawing from personal struggles he imagined a solution which would allow students to better function within the university setting.

Some of the alumni could not make it to our event therefore we managed to interview them beforehand and exhibit some of their work:

Kemey Lafond studied a BA in Live Events and Television at London College of Communication and specialised in Theatre Design. She has worked in a wide range of productions within the entertainment industry.

Alice Dongeun Lee studied a BA in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts and we exhibited her artwork called “S.O.S : Who in the www am I?" which represent you people are within the cyber world.

We were also join for musical intervals by The JB Conspiracy, Doroteja and Sophie Cooper.

The event was a great success as we have sold 80 tickets and raised £400 which will be given to mental health charity Mind.
